Cheshire Oset Cup 2019 Round 1 Report & Video

Round one of the, 2019, 2 Machs Motorcycles, Cheshire, Oset Cup saw clear skies greet the 42 riders. Mouldsworth sand quarry hosted the event for the first time in two seasons (the “beast from the east” causing it’s cancellation in 2018!). 5 sections for each of the three classes were laid out to be completed 4 times each. As always some riders were new to the series, riding their xmas presents, alongside some of the old faces who have grown up through the championship. Overnight rain forced some of the sections to be altered before the start but the sunshine on the day made for a fun day riding electric trials bikes!!

Several of last years Expert riders have grown into petrol trials now, making way for a good number to step up from last years inters class. Great to see that the series bringing riders on within it’s own championship but also setting others up to take the step into adult events too. Dempsey Pickup, the 2018 D class inter champ, set his stall out early to win the Expert class in this first trial of the season on 14 marks. Section 5 was the tester on the day, the ground really turned slick after the first few riders had been through. This made the cambered climb to the last pair of the markers somewhat of a challenge for the Experts and Inters, most of the days marks were dropped here!!!. Lucy Baker, another progressing Intermediate rider, took the leap into the Expert class and followed Dempsey home on 18 marks for the day. Isaac Tilson, put his all action style to good use to take third spot on 20 marks.

The C Class inters was a closely fought battle. Lewis Freeman took the victory on 20 marks from the ever improving Afon Poole on 21. Reuban Rustage stepped up into Inters with a great start finished third on 22 marks.

A good ride from Michael Thomas saw him take the C Novice win on 24. Scarlet Spink followed on 30 marks in her first Cheshire event.

Zach Reynolds still sporting his snow-boarding goggle sun tan aced the D class Inters with just a 6 mark loss. Full commitment on section 5’s slippery climb being his trump card. Rylan Pickup followed in second place on 13 marks, closely followed by George Jones on 16 marks.

D class Novice Ben Whitehouse stormed the trial with just 2 marks lost on the day. Dexter Steele and Luca Lanzi battled out the remaining podium places with 15 and 19 marks dropped respectively. Charlie Brookfield is another name creeping up the leaderboard each time, coming home in fourth on 26 marks.

Young Jay Hanmer took the win in the E class novices on 43, with some encouraging clean rides. Just one mark further back was Charlie O’Reilly in second place. Riley Gray completed the podium with a 62 mark drop.

Good fun was had by all, with the exception of section 5 (Sorry guys, it turned a bit harder than expected!!). The sand quarry is always a good venue, with sandy banks, rocks etc. It does play havoc with brake pads though so please have a good look at your brake wear before the next trial!! On that subject the next trial is set for the grassy banks of the Frodsham Caves on May 12th. Details will be published closer to the time, looking forward to seeing you there…
